Day Old Chicks
Unsexed day old chicks are around £6 each, depending on the breed, colour and quantity.
We only hatch a small amount of chicks each week, so it's unlikely we'll have more than a handful of each breed at a time.
Chicks at this age need to be kept under a heat lamp or brooder for 4 weeks or until mostly feathered. They should be fed chick crumbs until they are around 5 weeks old when they should be put on growers pellets.
8 Week Old
All chicks are slowly hardened outside from around 6 weeks old (depending on the weather) and will be free ranging in pens (for their own safety) with plenty of food, water and the occaisonal treat from around 8 weeks old.
Chicks at this age are fed growers pellets and should be fed this until they're 15-16 weeks old, when they're given laying pellets. Small grit or sand should also be given to help digestion but nothing that contains calcium, like shells.
Point of Lay
These are normally 18-22 weeks old. Depending on the breed, food and conditions you keep them in, you should start getting eggs from them within a few weeks.
Silkies, Cream Legbar and Copper Marans are £20, Jersey Giant, Lakenvelder, Vorwerk, Barnevelder, Faverolle and Wyandottes are £25 and Buff Orpington are £30 each.
At this age they are fed layers and should also be given additional supplements like crushed shells and grit in seperate feeders, to help with shell production and digestion.
